YES!...
Yet another Thra creature I came up with, as I'm flu-ridden and attempting at drawing and inking decent Ask replies and comics! (SORRY about the delays...I'll see to compensate themby making the next comics as good as possible! My job and now sickness are hindering e greatly...please be patient...:
)
Well now, about this ittle fellow over there:
This is an Ookie.
Ookies are small sized rodents (more or less about the size of a regular rabbit or hare)
They are quadrupedal and live in labyrinthine dens they excvate themselves by using their strong bony beaks.
The Ookie has no usual dentition as most mammals do: it's tiny, molar-like teeth are set in the middle of it's pallate and on a line of two, running from the half section of the pallate to the back end of it's throat.
This is an adaptation which helps them feasting on roots, which they cew on by use of the frontal molars, but more often they're seen swallowing eggs of other creatures much like earth snakes do. The Ooie grabs the eggs with it's beak, inclines it's heab backwards and opens it's jaws as widely as possible, then the egg slides down it's throat and the small set of teeth do their work, delicately puncturing the egg shell and allowing the animal to eat the content without chewing on the hard shell itself. Once the liquid meal is finished, the Ookie will spit the shell out in the form of a compact empty pressed calcium sheet.
The spines on Ookie's backs tend to disuade minor predators from eating them, for they make the Ookie hard to swallow whole, and would any animal attempt at biting them, they'd curl up exposing such spines as a defensive shield. Most small attackers sees themselves discouraged by such strategy.
however...
Ookies are known for having become a delicacy for the Skeksis Overlords, who started to hunt them for meat.
In latter days wild Ookies were favored nevertheless, due to the skeksis' advances ito breeding a healthy population of them in captivity at lower sections of their castle.
Such Ookies would be used for their meat, which is said to be very tender, softly flavored and to go excelently with any sort of sauce or gravy.
